IEEE Canada Awards
IEEE members in Canada can be nominated for and recognized by awards that are administered by different parts of IEEE. The IEEE Canada Awards and Recognition Committee urges you to consider nominating suitable candidates for the various awards that are available to IEEE Canada members and Sections.

W.S. Read Outstanding Service Award
Recipients of this award are exceptional IEEE volunteers who are recognized for outstanding and sustained service to IEEE Canada and the Institute. Award established in 1995. Award consists of a gold medal, a plaque, and a travel allowance to the awards ceremony.
P.D. Ziogas Electric Power Award
IEEE Canada remembers, through the P.D. Ziogas Electric Power Award, his contributions to the development of electric power. Recipients of this medal are outstanding Canadian engineers recognized for their important contributions to the field of electric power engineering. Award established in 2007 and named in 2017.
Outstanding Engineer Award
Recipients of this medal are outstanding Canadian engineers recognized for their important contributions to Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Normally not available to candidates in telecommunications engineering, power engineering, or computer engineering or science. Award established in 1994.
R.A. Fessenden Award
IEEE Canada remembers, through the R.A. Fessenden silver medal, his pioneering transmission of intelligible speech by electromagnetic waves. Recipients of this medal are outstanding Canadian engineers recognized for their important contributions to the field of telecommunications engineering. Award established in 2000.
E.F. Glass Western Canada Merit Award
Recipients of this award are exceptional IEEE volunteers who are recognized for meriterious service in western Canada at the local IEEE Section and Area level. Award established in 1986. Award consists of a silver medal, a plaque, and a travel allowance to the awards ceremony.
A.G.L. McNaughton Award
IEEE Canada remembers, through the A.G.L. McNaughton Gold Medal, General McNaughton’s contributions to the engineering profession in Canada. Recipients of this medal are outstanding Canadian engineers recognized for their exemplary contributions to the engineering profession. Award established in 1969.
C.C. Gotlieb Computer Award
Recipients of this medal are outstanding Canadian engineers recognized for their important contributions to the field of computer engineering and science. Award established in 2007 and named in 2012.
J.M. Ham Outstanding Engineering Educator Award
Recipients of this medal are outstanding Canadian engineers recognized for sharing their technical and professional abilities through teaching (in industry, government or an institution of higher learning) and in doing so have made an outstanding contribution to engineering education. Award established in 1994.
R.H. Tanner Industry Leadership Award
Recipients of this medal are outstanding Canadian professionals recognized for their important leadership contributions in Canadian industry where there is significant activity in areas of interest to IEEE. Award established in 2009.
J.J. Archambault Eastern Canada Merit Award
Recipients of this award are exceptional IEEE volunteers who are recognized for meriterious service in eastern Canada at the local IEEE Section and Area level. Award established in 1991. Award consists of a silver medal, a plaque, and a travel allowance to the awards ceremony.
M.B. Broughton Central Canada Merit Award
Recipients of this award are exceptional IEEE volunteers who are recognized for meriterious service in central Canada at the local IEEE Section and Area level.
Nominate a member
The Nomination Procedure for the following awards uses the OpenWater online awards portal. Each nomination requires two endorsements from different people. Anyone (including non-members) can nominate but only IEEE members (from any Region) can endorse. If an award has only one single nomination, this nominee can be awarded the award, as long as the nominee meets the criteria for that award. Members of the IEEE Canada Awards Committee are not eligible to be nominators, nominees or endorser of nominees for any IEEE Canada Award.
EIC Medals and Fellows
The Engineering Institute of Canada elects annually a select number of engineers to the grade of EIC Fellow for their exceptional contributions to engineering in Canada. As IEEE Canada is one of the 10 member societies in EIC, our members qualify for this recognition and are often among those being elected. Additionally, EIC presents a range of Medals to further recognize member contributions. Generally, EIC Fellows are nominated for the EIC Medals.
IEEE EIC Fellows
The Engineering Institute of Canada elects annually a select number of engineers to the grade of EIC Fellow for their exceptional contributions to engineering in Canada. As IEEE Canada is one of the 10 member societies in EIC, our members are often among those being elected.
IEEE EIC Medals
The Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC) annually awards prestigious EIC Medals to recognize outstanding achievements and significant contributions to the field of engineering in Canada. These medals honor individuals whose work has had a lasting impact on the engineering profession.
Nomination Process
A completed nomination form, two letters of support are required. The same forms are used for Fellow and Medal nominations. Generally, EIC Fellows are nominated for EIC Medals. The deadline for receipt of nominations and letters of endorsement is the middle of November of each year.
